Professor Justin Craig, Visiting Professor of Rita Tong Liu School of Business and Hospitality Management, shared his latest research and teaching insights with faculty members during his three days with the School from 16 to 18 April 2026.
Professor Craig presented his research examining the role of trust in shaping decision-making processes within family businesses. The project, entitled 'Generalising the Jecklin Trust-Control Framework: Hong Kong Evidence' with School Dean Professor Susana Yuen as Principal Investigator and Professor Craig as a Co-Investigator, explores how varying levels of interpersonal and institutional trust influence strategic choices, governance practices, and conflict resolution across generations. The findings highlight the complex interplay between family dynamics and organisational outcomes, offering insights into how trust can both enable and constrain effective decision-making in family enterprises.
With regard to family business succession and governance, Professor Craig shared his perspectives on how family businesses can successfully navigate generational transitions while adapting their business models in response to changing market conditions. He underscored the importance of robust governance architecture and demonstrated how family firms can build confidence among stakeholders, ensure leadership legitimacy, and sustain organisational resilience across generations.
As for pedagogy, Professor Craig elaborated on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into Project-Based Learning (PBL). He combined AI-driven insights with real-world problem-solving tasks to illustrate how educators can design adaptive, interactive, and student-centred learning environments.
Professor Craig is also adjunct professor at Northwestern University (USA) and Bond University (Australia).
