Successful Symposium Marks the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China: Exploring Future Perspectives of Sinology and Chinese Culture

Chinese traditional culture is the "root" and "soul" of the Chinese nation. To showcase the vitality and charm of Chinese traditional culture and promote its research, inheritance, and development, the seminar and exchange event titled "Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China and Exploring the Future of Sinology and Chinese Culture" was held on February 13 at the Hong Kong Palace Museum. Approximately 400 participants attended the event, including scholars and experts from universities in Hong Kong and Mainland China, representatives of secondary school teachers and students, and media representatives.

Event Venue

This event was organized by Sain Francis University of Hong Kong, co-organized by the Hong Kong Palace Museum and the Hong Kong Association of Chinese Middle Schools, with the support of the Art Voyage Cultural Promotion Association and the sponsorship of Outlook New Era magazine. The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Mr. John Lee Ka-chiu, penned the inscription "雅才薈萃,文化傳承" for the event, recognizing its significance in promoting excellent Chinese traditional culture. The Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration of the HKSAR, Mr. Cheuk Wing-hing, also wrote an inscription, "華光耀彩,國粹揚芬" expressing his deep expectations for the continuation and development of Chinese culture.

The event was officiated by distinguished guests, including Zhao Zhigang, Head of the Education and Technology Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR; Yu Kin-keung, District Officer of Yau Tsim Mong District; Tang Fei, Legislative Council Member (Election Committee constituency) and Vice President of the Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers; Wang Junzheng, President of Outlook New Era magazine; Dr. Louis Ng Chi-wa, Director of the Hong Kong Palace Museum; Au Chor-kwan, Yau Tsim Mong District Councillor and Member of the Committee on Arts and Cultural Events; Leung Koon-fun, Chairperson of the Hong Kong Association of Chinese Middle Schools; and Professor Lo Tit-wing, Acting President of St. Francis University.

As Hong Kong's ties with Mainland China grow closer, Sain. Francis University has established the Global and Mainland Engagement Division to strengthen its global and Mainland networks, enhance its international reputation, and foster a globally connected and collaborative academic community.

The event featured thematic presentations by scholars from Shaanxi Normal University, Beijing Normal University, and St. Francis University of Hong Kong. Their topics ranged from the cultural significance of Northern Shaanxi storytelling, the relationship between Chinese characters and culture, to the five elements (Wu Xing) in ancient Chinese culture. These presentations not only showcased the charm of Chinese traditional culture but also highlighted its vitality in modern contexts, demonstrating the active role universities play in cultural preservation and innovation.
