SFU Signs MoU with Shenzhen Polytechnic University to Advance Guangdong–Hong Kong Collaboration in Health Sciences Education

21 May 2026
Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung, President of Saint Francis University (SFU), is currently in Germany as part of the delegation of the Working Group on Planning and Construction of the University Town, led by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Chan Kwok-ki, under the Committee on Development of the Northern Metropolis. During the visit to Bildungscampus Heilbronn, the delegation learned about its successful experience in fostering an entrepreneurial ecosystem through start-up incubation, networking and interdisciplinary collaboration. Of particular note was the key role played by universities of applied sciences in the campus's overall ecosystem, which offers valuable international reference for Hong Kong's development of applied sciences education. As a member institution of the Alliance of Universities of Applied Sciences, SFU has also been actively expanding collaboration with Mainland institutions to promote applied education and professional talent development.

Earlier, SFU signed a MoU with Shenzhen Polytechnic University (SZPU) to advance collaboration in health sciences education, nurture high-calibre applied talent, and contribute to enhancing health service capacity in the Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Professor Cheung led a delegation from the School of Health Sciences and the Office of International and Mainland Affairs to SZPU to witness the signing of the MoU. As Hong Kong's pioneering University of Applied Sciences, SFU is committed to advancing applied education and deepening collaboration with institutions across the GBA, aligning with the broader direction of deepening educational exchange between Guangdong and Hong Kong.

Professor Cheung said, "SFU is committed to advancing applied education and deepening collaboration with Mainland institutions, further reinforcing its role as a University of Applied Sciences. By drawing on the strengths of both institutions, we aim to enhance students' professional competence and broaden their national perspective, nurturing health sciences talent to meet the needs of the GBA and the wider industry."

SFU expressed the hope that this collaboration would combine the strengths of both parties in applied education and health sciences, support the development needs of the GBA, and promote complementary advantages in professional education resources between Guangdong and Hong Kong.
Following the ceremony, representatives of the two institutions discussed future collaboration and toured the training laboratories of SZPU's School of Medical Technology and Nursing. The MoU creates a wider scope for collaboration in curriculum articulation, faculty and student exchange, and practical training.
