SFU's Latest Development: Saint Francis University Welcomes Caritas Bianchi College of Careers as a Prospective Member of the University

10 Jul 2025
Saint Francis University (SFU) has applied to the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) to integrate Caritas Bianchi College of Careers (CBCC) as an academic unit of the University. This significant step aims to expand educational opportunities and offer a more flexible and diverse academic and articulation pathway for students in Hong Kong.

The application is currently under review, pending approval by HKCAAVQ.

Upon approval, all the current programmes of CBCC will continue to be offered, and graduates' academic qualifications and awards will remain unchanged. Students enrolling at CBCC starting this September will receive graduation certificates issued by Saint Francis University.

The vision to integrate CBCC into SFU has been in development since 2012, when the former Caritas Institute of Higher Education was granted the campus site at Tseung Kwan O. CBCC specializes in diploma, associate degree and higher diploma programmes, allowing its graduates to progress into related degree programmes at SFU. With our retitling as Saint Francis University in January 2024 and our designation as a University of Applied Sciences in November 2024, we have made significant progress in facilitating this integration project. Our goal is to provide students with a more flexible and diverse range of higher education pathways.

In the new organisational structure, CBCC will continue to operate its Department of Design and Department of General Education. Furthermore, SFU will integrate the existing Departments of Business and Hospitality Management, Health Sciences, and Social Sciences into distinct schools under SFU: the Rita Tong Liu School of Business and Hospitality Management, the S.K. Yee School of Health Sciences, and the Felizberta Lo Padilla Tong School of Social Sciences. All the 12 associate degree, higher diploma, diploma, and professional diploma programmes currently offered by CBCC will still be available, and the qualifications earned by graduates will remain unchanged. Graduation certificates will be issued by SFU.

We are grateful for the continued support from our community, which has contributed to a steady increase in enrollment at both SFU and CBCC over recent years. After CBCC becomes a part of SFU, we remain committed to our educational mission, aiming to meet the demands of society and offer a diverse range of educational opportunities across multiple disciplines, including humanities and languages, social sciences, business and hospitality management, health sciences, computing and information sciences, and design.
