With the approach of the Chinese New Year, SFU held a Lunar New Year Party today (February 12), creating a festive atmosphere on campus with traditional snacks and celebratory activities.
The event kicked off with a lion dance performance. Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong His Eminence Cardinal Stephen Chow Sau Yan, S.J.; SFU President Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung; President of Ateneo de Naga University Fr. Aristotle C. Dy, S.J.; Treasurer of Board of Governors and Council Mr Joseph Hui Tak-fai; Council Members Dr. Joseph Lee Chung-tak, Dr. Helen Tinsley and Professor Joseph Ng Kee-yin; and Chaplain Fr. Arturo De la Torre were invited to officiate the "eye-dotting" ceremony.
A Spring Festival calligraphy booth was specially set up, with various nostalgic snacks such as red bean pudding, bubble waffles, and roasted sweet potatoes served. Professor Cheung roasted chestnuts himself to share the joy with staff and students. On the same day, the University also held a New Year's Eve Thanksgiving Mass as well as a student talent show.
