President's Perspectives: Newspaper Op-ed: AI Reshaping the Future of Economy and Talent

The President's op-ed article was published in HKEJ on 06 June 2026. The article discussed the far-reaching impact of artificial intelligence on economic transformation and talent development. Professor Cheung pointed out that AI is driving global productivity growth and reshaping industrial structures and labour markets. He emphasised that, in the face of the AI-driven transformation, society should not view it solely from the perspective of "technology enhancing efficiency", but must also respond through education, employment policies and vocational training. Professor Cheung believes that education must stay ahead of the transformation; curriculum updates are only the beginning. More importantly, AI applications should be integrated into various disciplines to cultivate students' technological literacy, cross-disciplinary capabilities and ethical awareness. He encouraged young people to embrace technology while upholding social responsibility, and to meet the new AI era with competence and values.
