Foshan University's Delegation Discussing GBA Talent Development with SFU
18 Jun 2026
A delegation from Foshan University (FOSU) has recently paid a visit to Saint Francis University (SFU), discussing application-oriented talent development, academic development, and the integration of industry, academia and research in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), with a view to strengthening collaboration and advancing coordinated educational development in the region.
At the meeting, SFU President Professor Stephen Cheung briefed members of the delegation on the University's mission, vision and motto "Strive for Self-Excellence". He also highlighted SFUâ©'s deep roots in Hong Kong and its unwavering commitment to serving the nation, as well as its mission of nurturing students with professional competence and a strong sense of national identity and affection for Hong Kong. Professor Cheung said SFU's six academic schools are actively aligning with the nation's long-term development strategy under the 15th Five-Year Plan, integrating into the GBA's development, and advancing plans for a new campus as well as research and development in frontier areas such as artificial intelligence to support national needs.
Mr Luo Shaoming, Secretary of the Party Committee of FOSU, said that both institutions are committed to serving local development and nurturing application-oriented talent, and that they share similar educational philosophies and a solid foundation for collaboration. He also invited SFU staff and students to visit FOSU for sports exchanges, noting that FOSU serves as a national training base for university dragon boat teams.
Professor Cheung also proposed a "3+1" joint training model, under which students would complete the first 3 years of study at FOSU before progressing to SFU in their fourth year. Coupled with internship opportunities in Hong Kong, the arrangement would help broaden students' global perspectives and enhance their practical skills, while supporting the development of more high-calibre application-oriented talent for the GBA.
Following this fruitful meeting, both universities look forward to promoting resource sharing and complementary strengths, setting a new benchmark for the integrated development of education in the GBA.
