SFU's HR Forum Explores Gen Z Talent Trends in AI Era

24 Jun 2026
Saint Francis University (SFU) recently held its inaugural Human Resources Forum under the theme "Human-Centred AI Strategy for Talent Development". Organised by SFU's Industry-University Partnership Office (IUPO), with the Career Centre and the Centre for Advanced and Professional Studies as co-organisers, the forum was supported by the Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management (HKIHRM) and ten human resources and professional bodies. It brought together industry leaders, academics and stakeholders to discuss emerging trends in talent development in the age of artificial intelligence (AI), deepen university-industry collaboration, and prepare talent for the future workplace.

The keynote speech was delivered by Mr Francis Fong, Honorary President of the Hong Kong Information Technology Federation (HKITF), who shared human-centred strategies for AI-driven talent development. The ensuing panel session was moderated by Mr Ian Choy, President of HKIHRM, and Ms Joanna Kwok, Head of IUPO at SFU, with topics including Gen Z's expectations of the workplace in the AI era and strategies for building a talent pool through university-industry collaboration.
SFU President Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung said"As AI continues to evolve rapidly, employers' expectations for talent are also changing. As a pioneering university of applied sciences, SFU will continue to respond to social development and workforce needs by strengthening university-industry collaboration and nurturing talent with both knowledge and practical skills."

At the forum, Mr Choy noted that university-industry collaboration is a key trend in future talent development, and that designing university curricula driven by industry needs can more precisely respond to market demands. Mr Fong emphasised that talent development must remain human-centred, and that organisations should support employees in cultivating agility and adaptability to lead teams through the changes brought by the AI era.

The forum not only facilitated exchange between academia and industry, but also strengthened SFU's ties with the sector. SFU will continue to leverage its strengths as a university of applied sciences, advance university-industry collaboration, and nurture applied talent to meet the evolving needs of society.
