Prof CHAN Sin-wai was honoured as an Honorary Fellow of the Hong Kong Translation Society

Prof CHAN Sin-wai, Dean of the Ip Ying To Lee Yu Yee School of Humanities and Languages at the Saint Francis University (SFU), has been conferred an Honorary Fellowship by the Hong Kong Translation Society, in recognition of his academic achievements and outstanding contribution to the pioneering work of translation technology.

As a guest speaker at the 11th Asia-Pacific Translation and Interpreting Forum on 21 May 2025, Prof CHAN delivered a master lecture on the theme of the Forum, "Culture, Connectivity and Technology: Translating Communities, Transforming Perspectives", in which he discussed how to construct different systems for translating Chinese recipes into English, generating images and videos from recipes, and generating recipes from videos. Prof CHAN was conferred Honorary Fellowship by the Hong Kong Translation Society, one of the organisers of the Forum, at a ceremony held on the same day.

Prof CHAN's achievements in the field of translation are remarkable, with more than 110 publications spanning both academic and practical fields. Prof CHAN has foreseen the importance of technology in translation, and has been known as a pioneer in the field of translation technology and humanities technology by actively developing this field at university. The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Translation Technology (JSSA05) programme at SFU, that is developed under Prof CHAN's effort, is dedicated to nurturing a new generation of technologically-literate translators.
