Core Areas of Expertise
The core areas of expertise of Dr. Low encompass the evaluation of preventive interventions, particularly parenting programmes within Chinese cultural contexts aimed at reducing parent–adolescent conflict and its impact on youth development. Dr. Low has extensive experience assessing school-based interventions, including suicide prevention and positive youth development programmes, as well as conducting policy-level evaluations that have contributed to government policy, such as evaluating pre-primary social work services that lead to regularization of school social work services at pre-primary institutions. Dr. Low’s research also examines the dynamics of parent–adolescent conflict during periods of social unrest and includes the evaluation of cognitive behavioural interventions for youth anxiety. More recently, Dr. Low involves collaboration with NGOs to evaluate play therapy for children with special educational needs, parenting programmes for parents in reducing child maltreatment risk, and the development of child safeguarding frameworks for pre-primary institutions in Hong Kong. He also collaborates with varies NGOs to evaluate effectiveness of social interventions on children and young people.
