Core Areas of ExpertiseProf. Chiu is an IEEE Fellow with expertise in mathematical modeling and data analysis. In his career, he has worked on different topics and research problems, notably database query optimization, Internet congestion control, network content distribution service, academic publication analysis, social networks and ride-on-demand services. More recently, he has collaborated mostly with social science colleagues working on explaining social phenomenon, studying public policies such as poverty measurement, retirement savings policy, housing issues, and elderly care services. His latest projects and interest address evaluation of social service projects.

Awards & Patents
Prof. Chiu is co-inventor for no less than 28 US Patents. Out of that, 6 were based on work after he became a university professor in Hong Kong. He is also recognized as a Stanford top 2% scholar in Networking & Telecommunications (career-long).
