IIC Make It Happen Competition
Organized by CIHE/CBCC Innovative Incubation Centre
The vision of Caritas Institute of Higher Education (CIHE) and Caritas Bianchi College of Careers (CBCC) is to nurture professionally well-trained and academically well-educated graduates who can contribute to the social and moral well-being of society.
With the kind donation of Wise Life Technologies Limited, the Innovative Incubation Centre (IIC) has been established in February 2022 through the collaboration between the "Institute and Enterprises" which is to play a pivotal role in nurturing the passion for excellence, an innovative culture and a make-it-happen attitude, and to contribute to a creative community at large.
Organisers / Co-organiers:
The competition is organized by Innovative Incubation Centre (IIC) together with Rita Tong Liu School of Business and Hospitality Management of CIHE, Department of Design of CBCC, and Career Centre CIHE/CBCC as Co-organisers.
Objectives:
- Nurture aspiring young entrepreneurs at CIHE and CBCC as future leaders in their endeavours;
- Create social, cultural and economic impact through select incubation projects;
- Generate new ideas, learning and industry insights to inform teaching, research and potential enterprise activities;
- Promote entrepreneurship and cross-disciplinary incubation practices in CIHE and CBCC;
- Develop multifaceted collaboration with external organizations and industry partners;
- Cultivate the innovation, design and applied research sensibilities as well as entrepreneurial mindset of incubates, participants and students; and
- Strengthen innovative young entrepreneurs in wealth and social value creation through sustaining their own enterprises.
Categories:
- CIHE/CBCC Students and Alumni:
Current Full-time/Part-time Students or Alumni of CIHE/CBCC
This competition will open to contestants who are not current full-time/part-time students or alumni of CIHE/CBCC are also eligible to submit proposals but they must enroll in a full-time or part-time programme offered by CIHE/CBCC if their proposal is selected to be supported by Innovative Incubation Centre.
Deadlines for Submission of Portfolios and Proposals:
- Proposal (Application Form) must be submitted to iic@cihe.edu.hk on or before 1 Sept 2022
- Finalists will be selected and notified for the Pitching Session by mid Sept 2022
Rules and Regulations:
- Proposal must be submitted to iic@cihe.edu.hk on or before 1 Sept 2022, together with the Application Form.
- Proposal can be submitted by an individual contestant or a group of with maximum 5 members
- Each contestant/group may submit maximum 2 proposals
- The Proposals must be in PDF format
- Application that has already received funding is not eligible.
- Suggested Content of Proposal:
- Summary of Business and Investment Plan
- Contestant/Group Profile
- Vision of Career and Organizational Management
- Description of Products/Services (in forms of text and/or visual presentation)
- Industry and Market Analysis
- Business Strategy and Model
- Business Benefits
- Marketing Plan
Judging:
Proposals will be judged in two rounds by judging panels formed by the Innovative Incubation Centre:
First Round Judging:
- The judging panel will select the potential proposals as the finalists for the final round of judging (Pitching Session) which will be held on mid-October 2022
Final Judging (Pitching Session):
- Finalists will need to present their proposal at the Pitching Session for the final selection. Finalists will be notified for the details of the format and venue in early October 2022.
Judging Criteria:
The judging panel will take into account the following criteria in the selection of the winning proposals:
- Innovation
- Marketability
- Sustainability
- Cultural and Environmental Awareness
Announcement of Result:
- Official announcement of results and presentation of awards will be made shortly in November 2022.
- The organizer reserves the right to withhold granting of any of the prizes.
Awards and Prizes:
Start-up Support:
- Seeding Funding
- Hiring and involvement of student interns / student research assistants / student helpers
Professional Resources:
- Rent-free co-working space
- Access to sophisticated equipment for prototype (e.g., maker bench, 3D printer, laser cut machine, and photo-shooting studio)
- Administrative support provided by the Centre
Training:
- Entrepreneurship coaching through the Mentorship Scheme
- Talks, seminars, workshops and sharing by experienced practitioners and entrepreneurs (and alumni of the IIC)
Networking Opportunities:
- Investment and Pitching programme which helps matching with and pitching to potential investors
- Referral of potential clients, business partners, collaborators and manufacturers
- Networking with peers
Exposure:
- Marketing and promotion support
- The sharing of success stories of the incubates, which will be documented in various media (e.g., videos and print) and will be promoted through various media planforms.
Development Scheme:
Incubatees and successful alumni of the incubation programmes will provide the following services:
- Serve as the Ambassadors of IIC to help promote the opportunity to the next generation of the IIC; and
- Serve as a guest speaker to share the success stories with the incubatees of IIC.
Copyright and Production Right:
- Every contestant should, on submitting a proposal in the competition, give an undertaking that the ideas for the proposal are original.
- The organizer will not be held responsible for the infringement of copyright or patent law connected with the proposal submitted in the competition.
- The copyright of all the ideas and designs will remain the property of the contestants who should take proper measures to protect their own copyright of their ideas/designs.
Exhibition and Publicity:
The organizer will retain the rights for exhibiting, publishing and printing the winning proposals.
