yNOTplay, a social enterprise specializing in play therapy, collaborated with Dr. Low of Saint Francis University to conduct a study on the effectiveness of play therapy for children with special educational needs. The play therapy program (hereinafter referred to as the "Program") was sponsored by the Family Harmony Charitable Foundation and the Lok Sin Children's Medical and Educational Foundation. This Program utilizes child-centered play therapy as its foundation, with registered play therapist supervisor Ms. Yu leading the yNOTplay team of therapists in play therapy interventions. In the first phase of this research project, 36 underprivileged children aged 3 to 12 facing emotional, social, and/or behavioral problems were referred to the Program by registered social workers. This study demonstrated that play therapy has significant effects on the emotional, behavioral, and social abilities of children with special educational needs, proving that the individual and group therapy programs used in this Program have a positive impact on improving the situation of children with special educational needs. Schools, communities, and educational institutions may consider introducing play therapy as an effective complementary therapy method to provide emotional support and enhance social skills for students.
