University titling: FAQ for Current Students

1. When does the university title take effect?
            The Chief Executive in Council approved the university status of Caritas Institute of Higher Education (CIHE) on 9 January 2024.  CIHE is now renamed "Saint Francis University" in English and “聖方濟各大學” in Chinese.
2. Will I be given a new student ID card to replace the old one?

The University will prepare the new student ID cards for students at at the beginning of Semester 1, AY2024-25.  The arrangements will be announced in due course.

3. When will the transcripts be issued under the name of Saint Francis University?

At present, transcripts will still be issued under the name of Caritas Institute of Higher Education.  It is expected that the new transcript under the name of Saint Francis University will be issued starting from July 2024. If you receive a transcript issued during the transition period, arrangements will be made for its replacement later. Details will be announced in due course.

4. When will the graduation certificates be issued under the name of Saint Francis University?

At present, graduation certificates will still be issued under the name of Caritas Institute of Higher Education.  It is expected that the new graduation certificates under the name of Saint Francis University will be issued starting from July 2024. If you receive a graduation certificate issued during the transition period, arrangements will be made for its replacement later. Details will be announced in due course.

5. Will the government subsidy (SSSDP/NMTSS) be impacted?
No, students will continue to receive government subsidy if the programme is subsidized by the government under SSSDP/NMTSS.

6. Will the titling affect my application for the Financial Assistance Scheme for Post-secondary Students (FASP) and the Non-means-tested Loan Scheme for Post-secondary Students (NLSPS) offered by the government?

No, students who need financial assistance may submit applications to the Financial Assistance Scheme for Post-secondary Students (FASP) and the Non-means-tested Loan Scheme for Post-secondary Students (NLSPS).

7. Will there be any changes on the scholarships offered by the government, institute or donors after the titling?

No, eligible students will continue to receive scholarships.  Please refer to the website of Saint Francis University for details.
